Die Idee<\/h6>

McMurtry ist ein britischer Hersteller von Elektro-Hypercars, der 2016 von Sir David McMurtry gegr\u00fcndet wurde. Die Besonderheit des Sp\u00e9irling liegt in seiner kompromisslosen Leichtbauweise und der extrem kompakten Bauform: Das Fahrzeug ist ein reiner Einsitzer, der nach dem Prinzip \u201eForm folgt Funktion\u201c gestaltet wurde und dadurch eine beeindruckende Effizienz und Dynamik aufweist. Es ist nur 3,7 Meter lang, 1,78 Meter breit und 1,02 Meter hoch. Der Elektroantrieb liefert 1.000 PS bei nur 1.200 Kilogramm Fahrzeuggewicht. Die Beschleunigung von 0 auf 100 km\/h gelingt in 1,4 Sekunden. Das Fahrzeug erreicht eine H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit von fast 300 km\/h.<\/p>

Aktive Aerodynamik<\/h6>

Das Herzst\u00fcck des Sp\u00e9irling ist sein \u201eDownforce-on-Demand Fan System\u201c. Diese Technologie erzeugt mit Ventilatoren einen Unterdruck unter dem Fahrzeug und sorgt so f\u00fcr eine gewaltige Anpresskraft \u2013 laut Hersteller bis zu 2.000 kg Downforce bei einem Fahrzeuggewicht von nur etwa 1.000 kg. Das bedeutet, dass der McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling theoretisch das Doppelte seines Eigengewichts auf die Fahrbahn \u201ebringt und so atemberaubende Kurvengeschwindigkeiten erreicht. Diese Technik erinnert an das legend\u00e4re Brabham BT46B \u201eFancar\u201c aus der Formel 1, das 1978 beim Gro\u00dfen Preis von Schweden mit einem \u00e4hnlichen L\u00fcfterprinzip einen \u00fcberlegenen Sieg einfuhr. W\u00e4hrend der Brabham nach nur einem Rennen wegen Reglement\u00e4nderungen verboten wurde, darf der Sp\u00e9irling als Track Day Car seine F\u00e4higkeiten voll ausspielen.<\/p>

Kopf\u00fcber-Fahrt<\/h6>

Mit einem spektakul\u00e4ren Experument hat McMurty die Leistungsf\u00e4higkeit des Downforce-on-Demand-Fan-Systems unter Beweis gestellt: Anfang 2025 fuhr Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer Thomas Yates den Sp\u00e9irling auf eine eigens daf\u00fcr konstruierte Plattform, die das Fahrzeug auf den Kopf drehte. Mit aktivierten Ventilatoren blieb das Fahrzeug allein durch den erzeugten Abtrieb kopf\u00fcber an der Decke haften. Anschlie\u00dfend fuhr Yates einige Zentimeter kopf\u00fcber weiter, ohne dass das Fahrzeug durch Magnete oder andere Hilfsmittel gehalten wurde.<\/p>

Weltrekorde<\/h6>

Der McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling hat in den letzten Jahren auf vielen Rennstrecken Rekorde aufgestellt und damit seine Leistungsf\u00e4higkeit unter Beweis gestellt. Besonders medienwirksam war der Auftritt beim Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, wo der Sp\u00e9irlin mit einer Zeit von 39,08 Sekunden einen neuen Streckenrekord aufstellte und damit alle bisherigen Bestmarken \u2013 sowohl von Stra\u00dfen- als auch von Rennfahrzeugen \u2013 deutlich unterbot. Auch auf dem ber\u00fchmten Top-Gear-Testtrack setzte der Sp\u00e9irling mit einer Rundenzeit von 55,9 Sekunden einen neuen Ma\u00dfstab: \u201eThe Stig\u201c unterbot dort den 20 Jahre alten Rekord, der von einem Formel-1-Rennwagen aufgestellt worden war um 3,1 Sekunden.<\/p>

Track Day Car<\/h6>

Im Vergleich zu heutigen Supersportwagen oder auch zu aktuellen F1-Boliden ist der McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling deutlich kompakter gebaut. Die extrem geringe Fahrzeugbreite und der kurze Radstand machen ihn wendig wie kaum ein anderes Fahrzeug seiner Leistungsklasse. Das geringe Gewicht und die kleine Stirnfl\u00e4che tragen zus\u00e4tzlich dazu bei, dass der Sp\u00e9irling nicht nur auf der Geraden, sondern vor allem in Kurven eine \u00fcberlegene Performance bietet. Damit ist er als Track Day Car einzigartig: Er vereint die Fahrleistungen eines Formel-1-Rennwagens mit der Alltagstauglichkeit und Zuverl\u00e4ssigkeit eines modernen Elektroautos und bietet Fahrern die M\u00f6glichkeit, auf abgesperrten Strecken Motorsport auf h\u00f6chstem Niveau zu erleben.<\/p>
